Core Skills: Abdominal Wall Hernia

Description

This workshop serves as the first step towards understanding anatomy, pathophysiology and complex abdominal wall issues in a rapidly evolving subspecialty involving cutting edge research and newer operative techniques.

Practical sessions feature one expert faculty member per cadaveric station.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the ability to securely close a surgical wound using a subcuticular suture technique
  2. Discuss the anatomy of the abdominal wall, inguinal and femoral regions relevant to ventral and groin hernias
  3. Demonstrate safe and ergonomically sound minimum access techniques
  4. Perform open ventral hernia repairs and laparoscopic groin hernia repairs under supervision.
