Merkel cell carcinoma and rare/aggressive melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers

Description

The Merkel Cell Carcinoma and Rare/Aggressive Melanoma and Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers course is a specialised learning experience tailored for healthcare professionals managing complex cutaneous malignancies. Delivered by prominent experts, the course integrates theory, clinical imagery, and case-based learning to improve diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic strategies.

Unit 1: Merkel Cell Carcinoma and Rare Aggressive Tumors
Led by A/Prof. John Pyne, this unit introduces participants to rare malignancies, emphasising their high morbidity and mortality. Topics include Merkel cell carcinoma, microcystic adnexal carcinoma, sebaceous carcinoma, and nodular melanoma. Participants will explore clinical and histopathological features, focusing on aggressive behaviours and challenges in early detection and management.

Unit 2: Advanced Cases with Dr. Cliff Rosendahl
Building on Unit 1, this section focuses on detailed case studies, including Fibroepithelioma of Pinkus, lymphomas, and poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinomas. Participants will analyse dermoscopic images and learn to identify atypical vascular patterns and structural clues, supported by expert commentary and practical diagnostic strategies.

Unit 3: Rare Tumors by Dr. Luc Thomas
Dr. Luc Thomas presents an array of rare adnexal tumors and sarcomas. This unit emphasises histological nuances and the importance of comprehensive biopsies. Real-world cases illustrate the subtle differences between aggressive malignancies and benign mimics, refining participants’ ability to diagnose with confidence.

Additional Features:

  • Interactive case discussions with peer and expert input
  • Two online assessments to solidify knowledge: multiple-choice and scenario-based questions
  • Access to recommended readings and practical tools to reinforce learning

This course equips medical professionals with advanced expertise to address the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges posed by rare and aggressive skin cancers, ultimately enhancing patient care outcomes.
