Abnormal Uterine Bleeding: Managing endometrial dysfunction and leiomyomas

Description

This review provides a clinically focused, evidence-based approach to the medical and surgical management of two of the most common causes of menstrual disturbance: primary endometrial dysfunction and leiomyomas (fibroids).

Postmenopausal bleeding and the management of malignancy are beyond the scope of this article.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Undertake a thorough and focused history and examination of the patient to diagnose
  2. Be informed that abnormal uterine bleeding is a common condition in premenopausal women and know that there are several effective medical and surgical treatment options
  3. Support patients in their decisions making about treatment options, evaluate the impact of symptoms on quality of life and function, outline the risks of intervention and appreciate the patient’s plans for fertility.
