New CPD Home API removing the CPD administrative burden for Australian doctors

This month has seen the launch of the first ever Application Programming Interface (API) to hit the Continual Professional Development (CPD) space in Australia.

The long-awaited API is now assisting doctors who are subscribed to CPD Home and completing modules via learning partner Praxhub. This exciting innovation has changed the CPD landscape in the way CPD activities are recorded and will substantially reduce the administrative burden currently facing already time poor doctors, allowing them to get on with what they do best – improving the health of all Australians.

What’s an API and why is this API a game changer in the world of medical CPD?

An API is essentially a set of rules that enables different technology applications to communicate with each other, exchanging data securely and easily.

As of 1 January 2024, under the Medical Board of Australia’s new Registration Standard: Continuing professional development (the Standard), Australian doctors requiring a CPD home can no longer self-manage their CPD and must join an Australian Medical Council (AMC) approved CPD home.

The good news for doctors is that CPD Home’s new API, helps to take away some of the ‘pain points’ for doctors when uploading and recording their CPD hours each year by automatically recording the completion of a Praxhub learning module via the CPD Home portal. A Certificate of Completion will be automatically added to their profile and the activity hours recorded in real-time.

Say goodbye to the tedious task of manual CPD activity tracking!

Thanks to the new API, this integration helps to reduce hours of monotonous CPD administration. Doctors can rest assured that when they complete their CPD Home-accredited learning modules via Praxhub, their completed activities will be reported directly to CPD Home, meaning no more CPD-leakage, or having to go back through multiple calendar entries to remember what CPD activities have been completed.

What are doctors saying?

A GP who is helping his local community at a busy clinic in Sydney says: “These are the things I have to do at the end of the year to get my CPD hours all loaded and into the backend.”

“First, I have to find my certificates, I then look through my calendar to see what activities I’ve completed, let alone try to remember where I have saved things. Then there’s the mad dash to get it all done by 31 December!”

“Something like this would be a huge blessing, removing this administrative burden and letting me get on with my job.”
